Ford “Surveillance Mode” Cop-Car Tech Offered to Other Automakers – News – Car and Driver | Car and Driver Blog

Ford calls this trick “Surveillance Mode” and bills it as “a first line of defense from potential assailants”; the automaker and its partner are now willing to license it to other manufacturers of police sleds. Certain non-cop vehicles from manufacturers such as Tesla and Land Rover do allow the driver to enable the backup camera at any time, even at highway speeds. And cars with front and side cameras—which Ford doesn’t offer on its Taurus- and Explorer-based Interceptors—can display a 360-degree view, which this system can’t.
